The
Global Congress Steering Group is comprised of
the the World Customs Organization (WCO), the International Criminal
Police Organization (Interpol), the World Intellectual Property
Organization (WIPO), the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC),
the International Trademark Association (INTA), and the International
Security Management Association (ISMA).
The parties have formed this unique, international public-private
partnership based on a mutual commitment to combat counterfeiting
and piracy, and a recognition that the public sector and private
sector must work together to find solutions to the growing international
problem. They recognize and respect the distinct capabilities
of one another, believing that their collective knowledge, skills,
mandates and contributions provide a unique, powerful and influential
approach to effectively combat the counterfeiting and piracy problem.
The WCO, Interpol and WIPO are the key international governmental
organizations involved in the fight against counterfeiting and
piracy, and their views and voice on the issue with their member
states and world governments is critical to finding and implementing
solutions. The ICC, INTA, and ISMA are global business organizations
actively engaged in the fight against counterfeiting and piracy.
All three embody the principle that business and governments must
work together to achieve more effective protection of intellectual
property.
The
primary objective of the Steering Group is to organize and host
an annual Global Congress to:
- Raise awareness
on the problems associated with counterfeiting and piracy
- Promote
better legislation and enforcement
- Enhance
cooperation and coordination
- Build Capacity
- Promote
solutions, particularly in the key focus area of health and
